I don’t think I can limit myself to a single most favorite dish. The very thought of some dishes will water your mouth especially when you don’t see it around for a long time. Currently I’m hunting for a very old and exotic dish. “Motta roast”. It appears as though this thing has vanished from restaurants in Kerala. The motta roast I’m talking about is reddish brown in color sauted well with fried onions and chillie powder with no gravy and has a red colored oil dripping in the plate. It goes well with anything, Appam, Iddiappam, Puttu in that order. I think it’s getting extinct. I have tried different restaurants in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Trichur and Palaghat in the last two months. The motta roast in all these places have got replaced with an other brown colored curry with boiled onions and some unknown masala with a very rich coriander flavor. Can anyone suggest a place where I can find this mouth watering motta?
